Traditional aircraft structural components are made of fiber-polymer thermosetting composites. The biggest drawback of this process is that it requires a large amount of drying time to solidify the substrate, thus limiting the production speed. Modern structures utilize higher-volume thermoplastic high-temperature engineering polymer composites to form prepregs and resin transfer molding (RTM) processes.

From a production perspective, there are actually many benefits for thermoplastic materials, such as Fortron®; PPS is usually more economical. Fortron®PPS has more stable dimensions, is resistant to chemicals and temperatures, and has a long tradition in aircraft structures, often being the preferred material for structural components.
